Not just to include technology because it is new and shiny, but because, with the right technology, their student's learning can be exponentially enriched. Using technology to support and complement the learning process, as Shourov Bhattacharya alluded to (Davies, 2012) enables current advances to engage and interest our students without removing humanity from the teaching process. This strategy aligns with Punya Mishra’s assertions that, “…creativity is the only solution… consider the Total Package, and … repurpose existing tools.” (Mishra, 2013). His keynote speech provided a range of examples of having an idea, then figuring out how to put the idea into practice, using the tools at hand, and ideas of others. Isn’t this what teachers desire for their classes: for their students to take what they know and apply it to what they don’t? References:

It's not just education that copies! But the problem isn't the act of using the ideas of others, it is what you do with the idea that's important! I think you will enjoy the process of using existing tools, it almost enforces creativity by giving the boundaries.

I have had the same situation at my school with ensuring that the right technology is used and not just the shiny new technology. It is hard to have a balance between being excited and engaged with technology and actually thinking critically about the real benefits of the technology.
